Yannick Wessidjam

Yannick is an Cameroon-American fluent in three languages. His mother (fluent in 5 languages) and his grandfather (fluent in 10) sparked an early interest in the richness of West Africa. Growing up in Brooklyn, he met immigrants from all over the world and recognized the interconnectedness of culture and language often overlooked by others.

This personal passion grew into Sankofa Lingua. After giving a presentation about African Language families for his company’s Black History Month celebration, he was hooked. He’s excited to share his passion and knowledge with you and your team!

Sankofa (SAHN-koh-fah) means “to retrieve” in Twi of the Akan tribe in what-is-now Ghana. The concept translates to “it is not taboo to fetch what is at risk of being left behind.” We believe looking into the past to better understand our present is critical to creating a better future.
